Calanus Oil
Calanus is a tiny crustacean and a common type of zooplankton found in the frigid waters of the North Atlantic. Calanus Oil is a completely natural product that includes unsaturated fats, primarily omega-3, and the carotenoid astaxanthin. The fats in calanus are unique wax esters that digest slowly, unlike the triglyceride, ethyl ester, and phospholipid forms typically present in fish and krill oils. Due to its slow digestion, calanus oil reaches the lower intestine, where it can affect normal metabolism. Astaxanthin, a carotenoid pigment, gives calanus oil its vivid red hue.
